Three Days of Devotions

Let’s look ahead to the August days of McGivney!

Wednesday, August 13, is the feast day (memorial) of Blessed Michael McGivney. It is formally celebrated within the Archdiocese of Hartford, where Father McGivney lived, served and died, and can also be celebrated elsewhere with the permission of the diocesan bishop.

Knights of Columbus councils are urged to request a Votive Mass of Blessed Michael McGivney on that day by approaching their pastor or council chaplain. Prayers for the Votive Mass can be found here.

The feast day is the center of a three-day devotion that marks Father McGivney’s birthday (August 12, 1852) and the day of his death (August 14, 1890). Thus, we can celebrate a McGivney “triduum,” and you may want to pray a novena to Father McGivney, from August 6-14.

Bring your heartfelt petitions to Blessed Michael and ask for his powerful intercession before God.

Favors Reported

Double Pneumonia / Connecticut
I went to the tomb of Father McGivney in St. Mary's Church to pray for my brother-in-law who has a rare form of leukemia and had developed double pneumonia. He was taken to the hospital because he could not breathe at all. They drained some fluid out of his lungs and he was sent home the next day, after I had prayed at the tomb. I think his recovery was due to the intercession of Father McGivney. I am still praying that he is healed of leukemia.

Prayers for Cancer / North Carolina
Elizabeth was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in spring of 2024. The State Council of North Carolina began praying for Blessed Michael McGivney to completely remove all cancer and restore her to health. This was accomplished in March of 2025. Thank you, Lord God!
